Library Quick Start Guide

Library Quick Start Guide

The Family Court Digital Library is designed to support self-represented litigants navigating the complexities of family court proceedings, mainly those involving child custody disputes. This quick start guide outlines the essential steps to search, read, and download information, ensuring users can maximise the library’s potential.

Searching for Resources

To begin, access the Family Court Digital Library via its official website, available 24/7 for your convenience. Upon login,  a search bar is prominently displayed at the top. Enter keywords relevant to your needs such as “child custody,” “court templates,” or “mediation tips”—and press enter. The search algorithm employs advanced filtering, allowing you to refine results by resource type (e.g. guides, videos) or topic. For optimal results, use the main menu to explore the category filters, which include options like “Final hearings” “Case Preparation,” and “Templates”. New users are encouraged to review the “Getting Started” section.

Reading and Understanding Content

Once you locate a resource, click the title to access the full content. Guides are presented in a clear, book format with numbered headings and bullet points for easy navigation, while videos feature play buttons and transcripts for accessibility. Worksheets and templates include instructions embedded within the document. To enhance comprehension, utilise the built-in bookmark feature for detailed reading or enable the text-to-speech option, available in English, to listen while multitasking. For complex topics, cross-reference multiple resources; for instance, pair a guide on evidence presentation with a resource to deepen your understanding.

Downloading Resources

Downloading is straightforward and supports offline access, critical for litigants with limited internet availability. Some resources feature “Download” button on their toolbar, typically available in PDF format for templates and worksheets. Click the button, and select your preferred location on your device. Templates are downloadable as editable documents, allowing customisation for your case. Ensure your device has sufficient storage, as some files vary in size.

Additional Information and Best Practices

The library is accessible on multiple devices, including desktops, tablets, and smartphones. If you wish to give feedback please contact us. Or if you want to contribute or tell your story, please also get I touch. Best practices include creating a personal filing system for downloaded materials, labelling them by date and topic (e.g., “Custody_Guide_052025”), and reviewing resources in a quiet environment to focus fully. Regularly check for updates as we regularly add new content.
